Welcome to the A to Z Challenge 2018 — Day 3 — Letter C! (If you just want the cursive printable, scroll to the bottom.)

C is for Cunning!

Dragons in tales of old are cunning.  But what does the word cunning even mean?

According to (easier to access than the dictionary across the room), cunning comes from the Old English cunnung, meaning to know.  And I think definition 4 is the most accurate when it comes to dragons: artfully subtle or shrewd; crafty; sly.

Here is a good quote to remember:
“Never judge another knight without first knowing the strength and cunning of the dragons he fights.”
― Richelle E. Goodrich, Slaying Dragons

Dragons in stories today can be cunning, but they can also be cute — like Dexter in The Popcorn Dragon or our very own Bookwyrm.  Here he is with some plants from Peggy Dean’s Botanical Line Drawing.

And now for another word that begins with c, cursive!  Cursive is seen by many as a dying art: like the ability to read a paper map, tell time on an analog clock, or calculate a 20% tip.
If you want the little dragon-lovers in your life to be able to do any of the above you have to teach them and maybe learn it yourself in the process.  Today’s dragon-themed “cursive c” practice sheet has 5 words that all start with c.  You can see the layout & highlights on Day 1 – A is for Amphitere.

It’s funny how the word cunning is often used to describe slightly unsavoury behaviour but it is actually just as applicable to a variety of circumstances. Love this project!

Love the cursive. Whimsical without being babyish.

Thanks! I’m trying to let everyone grow up around here. Sometimes that’s hard for a mama dragon to do…

A cute cunning dragon who writes cursive with his tale would make a cool character. 🙂

Whoops, tail instead of tale. Though that makes a good title — The Tale of a Dragon’sTail
